Dear Artists
Wishing you a happy World Art Day in advance!
In 2019, the International Association of Arts, a partner of UNESCO declared the 15th of April, which marks the birth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci, as the World Art Day to create awareness about artistic endeavours and creativity.
Whenever art has beckoned civilisation has responded; Art has inspired humans have followed; Art has visioned societies have executed. Art has occupied a very pivotal yet ignored space within our collective consciousness. Art is seen to be secondary, unnecessary, abstract. For the first time in history, art and artists are being given global recognition. Art has a utilitarian value that cannot be simply stated. Art evokes empathy, kindness, joy, it is the basis of community, of humanity, of all things greater!
“Art nurtures creativity, innovation, and cultural diversity for all peoples across the globe and plays an important role in sharing knowledge and encouraging curiosity and dialogue. These are qualities that art has always had, and will always have if we continue to support environments where artists and artistic freedom are promoted and protected. In this way, furthering the development of art also furthers our means to achieve a free and peaceful world.”
How schools restrict us and kill our creative instincts?
“Not everyone can be Mozart, but everyone can sing. I believe everyone is born creative, but it is educated out of us at school, where we are taught literacy and numeracy. Sure, there are classes called writing and art, but what’s really being taught is conformity.”

“With galleries and museums putting their collections online, there’s increased access to art, an artist’s oeuvre or a period or artistic style. Art Basel Hong Kong’s 2021 edition will be in hybrid format. While most galleries will travel to Hong Kong, over 50 will participate remotely through satellite booths that will allow each exhibitor to present their own small, curated exhibition”
“Over the years, I've pored over Google's work on psychological safety, the concept that people work best when they feel safe to take risks around fellow team members--confident that they won't get punished for voicing an idea, admitting a mistake, or even asking a question.”
When we think about emotional intelligence workplace interactions seldom come to our heads. We more often than not think about personal relationships while referring to the emotional quotient. “On any given day, you absorb around 74 GB (~16 movies) of information. Only 500 years ago, 74 GB is what the most educated person consumed in a lifetime. Yet this abundance of information has blended into the digital background of our lives. We seldom notice its presence, distracted by the notifications, emails, and dopamine binges.”
Do you sometimes catch yourself just staring at your screen, trying to read an article, while there are 8 more tabs open, you have emails to respond to in your inbox, your phone is filled with notifications, and you just feel exhausted? This is not just work stress this is a new phenomenon- information wipeout, the inability of our brains to process the overwhelming presence of information around us at all times.
“Think of all the successes you’ve accumulated. The awards, verbal validation, direct deposits, followers, job titles. Do these things define who you are? Would you still be you without them, if they were to vanish tomorrow?”
Who we really are isn’t defined by external cues. The only thing we can be sure of is we are here. We are aware. We exist. This is who we are.
Being a creator is a roller-coaster ride every day; there are constant doubt and uncertainty, there are brilliant highs but the lows are similarly devastating. The imposter syndrome often hinders the creative process of creators making them cautious and apprehensive of their own success.
Spotify has come up with this “Car Thing”, and it looks so fascinating!
The idea was for creators to get feedback in the form of likes or dislikes that can guide their creative output. However, the company believes that many times, a bad review on Steam is being given purposely, thus, changing what otherwise was a useful feature into a form of abuse. Initially, YouTube considered either hiding both numbers (like/dislike) or to add more friction to disliking something via extra interaction. The company also considered removing both the numbers completely as a solution to address the problems arising due to targeted dislikes.”
Will influencers be unionised in the wake of an upsurge in gaming content creators?
“As the number of athletes (including esports athletes) creating gaming content for their fans increases over the next few years, it is important for those individuals (and those that manage them) to understand what could be on the horizon in the gaming content creation world with regards to unionisation. However, it is important to stress that at such an early stage in the implementation of the Influencer Agreement, the main conclusion we can draw at present is to ‘watch this space’. How the SAG-AFTRA proposed changes are received by the influencer community should give us a good indication of how similar proposals may be received in the gaming world in the future.”
This week on Pepper Spotlight, the weekly podcast by Pepper Content, Pratik Poddar, the Principal at Nexus Venture Partners was in conversation with Pawan Rochwani about the evolution of platforms and the changing landscape of content creation.
