Hello Artists
April is upon us again, and things don’t look very different from the last time. COVID-19 cases are on the rise again, lockdown and curfew restrictions are imposed in almost all the states in varying degrees, there’s no sign of schools and workplaces opening anytime soon.
It’s real-life Deja-vu!
Last year we sustained ourselves through art so once again we rely on artists and creators around us for sanity and direction. We need purpose and motivation and healing, things which only art can provide in times of collective crisis. Artists and creators have long faced battles of their own and have persevered when the world around them was crumbling down.
Today you must show the same strength and vigor, and keep going.
“Art is a form of healing and recovery, and provides solace and therapy during times of stress. It helps safeguard mental and spiritual health, and reduce barriers between people, cultures and languages. Art has also been used to spark social change and increase awareness about destructive facets of economic development.”
Not to romanticize the situation but, Shakespeare wrote 3 of his greatest tragedies during the bubonic plague, Chaucer wrote the Canterbury Tales in quarantine.
Artists today are shaping history likewise, as the world is gripped with fear and uncertainty they have risen to the occasion. This is a test of our times, a benchmark moment for this generation, and it is not only a testimony to science but also to culture and their conjunction in this moment of worldwide crisis. Doctors and healthcare workers are saving lives and artists are saving humanity, propounding new hope and faith for our future.
“Global Creativity is going to be financed and celebrated to a degree that’s gonna make the first renaissance feel like a bleep in a history book. If you are a creative person and you are alive today this is literally the best time in the history of humanity to be on this planet”
In this video, Jack Conte, the Founder of Patreon, explains how we are living in the midst of a full-blown creative renaissance and how companies and media distributors all around the globe are getting ready to support the massive creator explosion that’s about to happen. The cultural perspective about creativity is about to change for once and for all, the artistic pursuits will no longer be seen as inferior.
Creators are going to dominate culture and technology and work throughout the world.
“Facebook’s internal R&D group, NPE Team, has today launched its latest experiment, Hotline, into public beta testing. The web-based application could be described as a mashup of Instagram Live and Clubhouse, as it allows creators to speak to an audience who can then ask questions through either text or audio. However, unlike Clubhouse, creators can opt to turn their cameras on for the event, instead of being audio-only.”
Facebook notoriously known for ripping of product ideas is at it again, this time chasing behind the newest buzz of the media and tech space, clubhouse! According to the article, the interface of Hotline will be similar to that of Clubhouse but it will have many differences such as video, text-based questions, upvoting and interactions can be recorded in Hotline, “this makes it feel less like a casual hangout and more like a professional event where an expert is leading a session and inviting an audience to ask questions.”
In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative, original thinker unless you can sell what you create. Management can not be expected to recognise a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman.

Often when creative people complain that their ideas get shot down in their organisation, the real problem is their skills at pitching and gaining influence need to be stronger. This is a brilliant piece that elaborates on how to pitch an idea effectively and successfully.
“To whom do you look for answers and leadership, both in thought and action? Is it your family’s rabbi? The president? More likely, it’s the Substack writer whose work you follow devoutly and share widely or the influencer offering personal and professional guidance.”
This article talks about the erosion of trust in institutionalised religion or any social structures and its subsequent shift towards individuals. Are we really moving forward a radically individualised state with little to no regard for traditional structures?
In Seoul, a couple defaced a painting worth $400,000, “Untitled” by the graffiti artist JonOne, mistaking it to be a participatory mural. This has renewed the debate over contemporary and abstract art. “South Koreans are debating what the vandalism illustrates about art, authorship, and authenticity.”
“They would thus rely on light torches, which could lower oxygen levels in caves and possibly leave ancestors on a state of hypoxia (oxygen deprivation). Without sufficient oxygen, the painters’ consciousness would have been altered, potentially pushing them into a state of euphoria. They might have even had out-of-body experiences and hallucinations.”
Artists in the stone age were high
“DC’s digital media budget has increased three-fold, while it has more than doubled for RR and Punjab Kings; Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have put in around 40 percent more in their digital purse, all channeling much of the spending towards better equipment and people. During a typical season, KKR's social media team, which includes a specialist to shoot on the phone, churns out over 300 videos in 60 days. “The world is changing. Earlier, the traveling entourage for social media would have one person, now we have eight to nine. Three years ago, no one would think of taking along a video editor. Now, everyone has one,”
